TEXT Welcome to my new message board. Feel free to leave messages in general to all Swashbuckling lovers out there. Let's swap information to help our Swashbuckling knowledge to grow. Let's have some fun, but please be careful what you say in here because there are children coming in all the time as well, and I want to maintain a family atmosphere. All posts that are out of line will be removed. Other than that, have fun!!!!

The world of Swashbuckling offers a lot!! I have been traveling the vast road of that genre for a long time. But the best thing, I guess, that I like about it is the fact that there are real histories behind the supposed ficticious characters that are portrayed in both movies and books.
Perhaps most people are more familiar with the movie characters, seeing as in this day and age there are too many people who don't really have time to sit down and read a good novel. Which is a real shame, of course. The novels offer more, perhaps, than a well put-together movie could ever!! Then again, the movies are quiet enjoyable themselves.
I'm guilty in feeling that today's authors do not offer to the public what the authors of yesterday had offered. And that is a well composed, poetical piece of work. Authors, such as Alexandre Dumas, Rafael Sabatini, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson come quickly to mind. But then there are others, such as Paul Feval, Howard Pyle and even Harold MacGrath who come to mind. Timeless classics such as The Three Musketeers, The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, Ivanhoe, Don Quoxite and Cyrano de Bergerac are also quickly called to mind. Yet the movies cannot be ignored themselves!!
Who can forget a well played scene by Errol Flynn, the king of the Swashbucklers? Despite the things said about his private life, he remains king of the sword-slingers. Even though he could not fly around like Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. (or Fairbanks' stuntman, no doubt), he made up for this with his acting ability - the which, I have yet, to find an equal to.
Not only Flynn and Fairbanks, but such actors like Tyrone Power, George Sanders, Robert Taylor, Richard Todd, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Maureen O'Hara and even Gene Kelly have given impressive performances. Even some modern day actors gave delightful performances as well, such as Antonio Bandaras, Sir Anthony Hopkins and even Brad Pitt!!!!
By the way, and off the subject, and concerning the last post by Yellow Rose - that was done by my own lady-sweet, that is why she said those things . . . and I do thank her!!! ;D
Take care all.
